The licensed inspection will be conducted by the Harris County Development Inspection Group, Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Harris County Pollution Control. In order to request your inspection, please log in to E-Permits and submit your inspection request or use the ink below to submit your inspection request.

What You Need To Know

Apply Online

Online Electronic Plan Submittal – E-Permits 

First time users will need to register for an account. 

Make sure you are selecting the correct application type in order to avoid any unexpected delays! 

Here are the steps for applying through E-Permits:

  1. Access the E-Permits platform and log in
  2. Navigate to the "Projects" section
  3. Click on "Apply"
  4. Locate your address on the map by either entering it or zooming in and double-clicking on the location
  5. A "Red Pin" will appear on the map, and all associated data will be retrieved by E-Permits. If the address is incorrect, you can correct it on the next page
  6. Click on the green "Apply" button
  7. In the selection labeled "Application," choose " License for Junkyard, Automotive Wrecking and Salvage Yard"
  8. Provide the required detailed information and click on "Next"
  9. Complete the application page and click on "Next"
  10. Upload all the necessary documents, and once finished, click on "Next"
  11. Finally, review the disclaimer, select "Agree," and then click on "Submit Application" 

That's it! You're done with the application process. Once you have obtained your Fire Code Permit and completed all required construction, please continue to inspections.

Conditions & Exceptions

  • New location cannot be located within a 100-year or 500-year floodplain, within 600 feet of a school, church, or residence or 1,000 feet from a drainage channel or a body of water

What You Need To Know

Existing Business

  • Site plan of entire property showing proposed and existing site
  • Unpermitted development must go through commercial site development for commercial review concurrent with tower review
  • A 300-foot or 600-foot radius from the proposed fence and distance to the nearest school, church, and residential structure by a licensed surveyor
  • A copy of all deed records of properties within a 300-foot or 600-foot radius if owned by the business owner
  • Complete application (only for over-the-counter submittals)
  • Floodplain information (if in the floodplain)
  • Business must have all required permits and pass all inspections

  • Distance to nearest bayou, stream, lake, or channel

The purpose of these regulations is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare by licensing the location of junkyards, automotive wrecking, and salvage yards. Compliance with these regulations and issuance of a permit under these regulations shall not be construed as a determination that a facility is in compliance with other regulations or statutes.

Once the application, plans, and permits have been approved, the subsequent phase involves issuing the license to operate.
