Adding and Relocating Fire Sprinkler Heads Plan Submittal Checklist

  • Name of owner and/or occupant/tenant
  • Drawings must be stamped, signed, and dated by the Responsible Managing Employee (RME) and include the name, address, and phone number of the installing company. Provide a copy of the RME’s state license.
  • Scope of work
  • If flexible piping attachments are used, contractor must provide documentation that existing pipe size and flow characteristic can support new installation type, along with hydraulic calculations

Online Electronic Plan Submittal – E-Permits
First time users will need to register for an account. 

Make sure you are selecting the correct application type in order to avoid any unexpected delays! 

Here are the steps for applying through E-Permits:

  1. Access the E-Permits platform and log in
  2. Navigate to the "Projects" section
  3. Click on "Apply"
  4. Locate your address on the map by either entering it or zooming in and double-clicking on the location
  5. A "Red Pin" will appear on the map, and all associated data will be retrieved by E-Permits. If the address is incorrect, you can correct it on the next page
  6. Click on the green "Apply" button
  7. In the selection labeled "Application," choose "Adding and Relocating Sprinkler Heads"
  8. Provide the required detailed information and click on "Next"
  9. Complete the application page and click on "Next"
  10. Upload all the necessary documents, and once finished, click on "Next"
  11. Finally, review the disclaimer, select "Agree," and then click on "Submit Application"

Adding and Relocating Fire Sprinkler Heads

This application is for adding or relocating ceiling sprinkler heads that need to be performed by a licensed plumber. Plans must comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 13 Chapter 23 in its entirety. Systems with Less than 10 Sprinkler Heads of work shall provide a letter on the contractor’s letterhead. The letter must contain the following:

  1. Name, address, including suite or unit number
  2. Description of the scope of work
  3. Number of heads added and relocated
  4. Head types, including existing heads
  5. Installation type, i.e. hard pipe or flex pipe
  6. Copy of the floor plan showing the additional and relocated heads

After Approval

After approval, you may pay fees online from your E-Permits account. Once fees are paid you may download the approved plans and print out a paper copy of the permit. Please post the permit so that it is fully visible on the project site and have a paper copy of the approved plans onsite during construction.

Once the inspection request has been submitted and additional information is needed, contact the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office at (713) 274-1730 or email Fire Marshal support.

When the Fire Marshal has approved the pre-inspection documents for fire inspection, complete the inspection request form entering the required information and submit it using Inspection Forms.
