HARRIS COUNTY ABOVE GROUND FIRE WATER TANK PLAN SUBMITTAL CHECKLIST

  • Name of owner and/or occupant/tenant
  • Name, Address and Phone Number of the Fire Protection Engineer (FPE)
  • Tank plans must indicate the following items:
    • Electronically monitored water level gauge.
    • Location and type of fill valves.
    • Manhole Access way location.
    • Anti-Vortex plate location, assembly, and means of attachment to tank structure.
    • Drain Valve location.
    • Overflow outlet location.
    • Listed OS&Y or PIV controlled gate valve on discharge side of tank
    • A permanent water supply for tank filling in accordance with NFPA 22.
    • All underground lines supplying a fire protection system from the tank must be submitted by either a State licensed fire line contractor or the sprinkler contractor if other than the tank installer.

Drawings must be stamped/signed/dated by Fire Protection Engineer (FPE), name, address and phone number of the installing company Scope of work

Fire Water Tank

Buildings and properties that have an inadequate water supply for fire flow may require a fire protection water tank. Water tanks for fire protection are used for a variety of applications including to supply fire sprinkler systems a source of water for firefighting to create a fire perimeter for fire departments to fill up trucks.

Fire Water Tank to comply with NFPA 22 or demonstrate equivalency in quality, strength, effectiveness, durability, and safety in accordance with Section 1.4 in NFPA 22.

Equivalency is considered a performance-based design. A FPE shall be required to submit documents showing that the equivalency complies with the applicable sections of NFPA 22. This shall include Calculations for sizing to comply with approved Commercial Building review and fire flow calculator.

After Approval

After approval, you can pay fees online from your ePermits account.Once fees are paid you can download the approved plans and print out a paper copy of the permit.Please post the permit fully visible on project site and have a paper copy of the approved plans onsite during construction.

When the receipt of the fire marshal’s email of approval has been received for the pre-inspection documents to request the fire inspection, complete the inspection request form entering the required information and submit to Fire Inspection Forms
