Swift Water Rescue - New Training Facility

Harris County does not currently have a training facility dedicated to water rescues. Due to our location on the Gulf Coast, the Houston/Harris County region has a history of extensive flooding. When flooding events occur, our first responders put their lives on the line to save residents at risk of injury or drowning.

To perform those live-saving rescues, our first responders must be properly trained to operate in swift water, high risk environments. To that end, the new Harris County Swift Water Rescue Training Facility (SWRTF) will allow our first responders to obtain practical knowledge and experience in a swift water training environment.

Officers will learn the proper techniques to assess, and safety respond to water/flooding related calls. Officer training will include, but is not limited to, water rescue techniques, avoiding entrapments, improving swimming skills, problem-solving, and team building.

Location: 1731 Hugh Road.
