Office of the County Engineer

The Private Damage function within the Office of the County Engineer Disaster Recovery section performs essential verification of disaster impacts on private residences. This verification process serves as the prerequisite for issuing repair permits following a disaster event.

For properties located within the 100-year floodplain, the Office of the County Engineer conducts damage assessments to maintain compliance with National Flood Insurance Program requirements. These assessments apply regardless of the damage source—whether flood waters, wind, or fire—and involve in-home inspections.

When damage assessment determines that repair costs would exceed half of the structure's value, additional requirements focusing on future disaster resilience apply before reconstruction can begin.
