When sediment or pollutants are washed away from construction sites, they usually find their way into nearby ditches, storm sewers, and streams. This causes several problems. First, it can clog these systems, making them less effective at preventing flooding. It also harms the fish and other creatures that live in our creeks and bayous by altering habitat and introducing toxic substances into the food chain. Finally, it makes those waterways look muddy and unattractive.
Environmental Services works with designers and contractors to create and maintain Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP). No two sites are the same, and conditions change over time, so it's important to make sure SWPPPs continue to be effective even after the project is complete. Our guidance helps ensure that chemicals stay out of the water and soil stays where it belongs.
