Harris County is home to many threatened or endangered species protected by either the federal government or the state of Texas. These include animals such as the alligator snapping turtle and the tricolored bat.
The Environmental Services team works with consultants, US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to make sure that OCE projects don’t harm these species or their critical habitats. We are even involved in the management of preserves set aside for Texas prairie dawn (Hymenoxys texana).
