Office of the County Engineer

The Geotechnical Group produces and maintains geotechnical standards, guidelines, and a set of review protocols and technical principles to use when designing and reviewing projects with geotechnical elements. These elements may include any earthwork or foundation-related activities, such as the construction of cuts, fills, or retaining structures, which due to their scale, scope, complexity, or expense, require special consideration.

The review procedures and technical guidelines help Engineering and Architectural Project Managers better understand provide preliminary reviews of geotechnical reports, including:

  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Identifying defects or potential claim issues from poor geotechnical research, analysis, or design.
  • Recognizing when to seek technical assistance from a geotechnical professional.
